Romain Gavras

Romain is a Greek French director, he's best known overseas and along side directing music videos he does foreign films and documentaries so his skill set is very varied. He's worked with big artists such as Jay Z, Kayne West and M.I.A; working with M.I.A won this director two MTV VMA's for 'Best Cinematography' and 'Best Direction' on the video "Bad Girls".

The reason I chose Romain Gavras to research is due to his work which is gritty and takes a look into other culture aspects, which is shown is his making of "Bad Girls" . Although he has worked with other big names he is very well known for his work on M.I.A's music video "Bad Girls", this is a video that particularly sparks my interest because the attitude given out in the song is also presented through the video with a lot of energy. In my video I want to be able to create this link, also the representation of girl power that feels so strong in the "Bad Girls" video is something i'd like to be shown to some extent in my video. The controversial aspects of his videos i.ie. arabian girls with guns, help to shy away from the typical music video and gives his work an extra 'something' when you see the end product.
